and the way to do that is to be financially viable.

BILL MUNSON: The healthcare system we have today is one in which everybody expects and deserves more and at the same time, they want to pay less. 

[Text On Screen – As an independent facility, BCH was seeking ways to reduce expenses, improve revenue cycle performance and achieve sustainable operating margins.]

BEHRANG D. HARSINI: You can’t just remain stagnant. You have to grow and you have to be competitive in the market. Optum has not only the scale and the capacities, but also the expertise and resources to support that. 

[Text On Screen – Optum helped BCH move forward by managing its revenue cycle operations, with significant results.]

[Text On Screen – In the first year alone, BCH’s operating margin increased by 1%.]

[Text On Screen – In 2021, BCH saw its highest operating margin since 2016.]

VICTORIA RENDON: Optum put productivity metrics in place.

We re-measured everything. We measured what was coming into our department. We measured how fast people were working, how fast they could be working. And we started really holding people individually accountable for the work that they were doing. 

[BILL MUNSON SPEAKING]

BILL MUNSON: They bring much deeper bench strength, subject matter expertise, sophisticated analytics, tools, and technologies, that would not be possible for us to achieve on our own with the scale that we have. That translates into higher and more appropriate reimbursement for the services that we provide. 

[Text On Screen – $6 million revenue lift]

BEHRANG D. HARSINI VOICEOVER: So the first year, we had over $6 million revenue lift for Boulder. So that’s $6 million of revenue that was not realized prior to the Optum partnership. That’s just year one, right?

[Text On Screen – Point of service cash collections improved by 55%]

Point of service cash collections improved over the course of the first year of the partnership by 55%. Overall cash is going to be a measure of payments 

[BEHRANG D. HARSINI SPEAKING]

BEHRANG D. HARSINI: payments coming in from an insurance company and from patients. That’s been increased by 11% in year one. 

[VICTORIA RENDON SPEAKING] 

VICTORIA RENDON: It was nice once Optum was on board and we started seeing the change. People started getting excited. And then you started seeing a lot more people, not just leadership, but team members as well, speaking up and saying, hey, what about this or why can’t we do that? So you saw a lot more engagement.

BILL MUNSON: I’m definitely more optimistic and I’m encouraged about what we can accomplish together in the future.
